In 2021, Daniel Kaluuya and director Shaka King teamed up to tackle Judas And The Black Messiah<\/em>. The result was an alternately exhilarating and harrowing thriller that brought the story of William O’Neal, Fred Hampton, and one of the Black Panther movement’s greatest tragedies to our screens in some considerable style. Now, per Deadline<\/em>‘s reporting, the director-star duo are looking to reteam on Amazon MGM Studios joint The Parlay<\/em>. And, what’s more, One Battle After Another<\/em> Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor is in talks to star in the movie.<\/p>\n

As per Deadline<\/em>, it’s understood that Kaluuya \u2014 who’s currently hard at work writing his hotly anticipated solo Spider-Punk movie for the folks over at Sony Pictures Animation \u2014 is the one who brought The Parlay<\/em> to King and Taylor. Clearly the Brit actor, whose performance in Judas And The Black Messiah<\/em> landed him a richly deserved Supporting Actor Oscar win, was excited by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie’s spec script for the film (which, it’s worth noting, is now being revised by the duo alongside King.) As for what The Parlay<\/em> actually entails, your guess is as good as ours, although it is<\/em> believed to be an action crime thriller, which would certainly fit the milieu of Kaluuya and King’s last collaboration \u2014 and wouldn’t exactly be out of Taylor’s wheelhouse, either.<\/p>\n

After a four-year absence from our screens, at least in live-action projects, we will thankfully be seeing plenty more of Daniel Kaluuya in the coming months. Away from writing Spider-Punk<\/em> and producing Ayo Edebiri’s upcoming A24 Barney movie, Kaluuya already has the Chris Rock directed Misty Green<\/em> in the can and Together<\/em> helmsman Michael Shanks’ mind-bending next movie, Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel<\/em>, well on its way. And now we can look forward to Kaluuya, King, and Taylor getting The Parlay<\/em> started, too \u2014 and hopefully very soon. Watch this space!<\/p>\n
