When you think of dinosaur movies, there\u2019 one franchise that rules them all: the Jurassic<\/em> saga, that began with Steven Spielberg\u2019s Jurassic Park, and still continues to pull big box office today. While there have been other major movies involving prehistoric beasts \u2013 from early stop-motion cinema, to Peter Jackson\u2019s King Kong, and recently the Adam Driver-starring 65<\/em> \u2013 it all comes back to that dinosaur theme park. But this summer comes The End Of Oak Street<\/em>, a different kind of dino movie, from It Follows<\/em> director David Robert Mitchell. Produced by JJ Abrams, it sees a suburban street \u2013 and its fleshy human inhabitants \u2013 somehow transported back to the time of those terrible lizards.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n As Abrams tells Empire<\/em>, its every setting is what makes Oak Street<\/em> stand out from its toothy competition. \u201cI think people are hungry for new stories, original stories, and to me, the undeniable appeal of this is the fact that it takes place in suburbia,\u201d Abrams tells Empire<\/em>. \u201cI love the Jurassic<\/em> movies as much as anyone, but those films, for the most part, take place in these beautiful jungles, these distant islands. David\u2019s whole approach here was the juxtaposition of the absolute mundane suburban family life \u2014 swing sets and ice-cream trucks, and above-ground pools and school buses \u2014 and dinosaurs. If there\u2019s any part of you that is excited by what you saw in the trailers, I can promise that the movie will deliver on everything.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Mitchell\u2019s monster influences run from those early cinema classics \u2013 The Lost World<\/em>, King Kong<\/em>, The Valley Of Gwangi<\/em> \u2013 to The Twilight Zone<\/em>, Signs<\/em>, and Amblin movies. But he\u2019s also deeply invested in the humans here \u2013 led by Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, as parents Greg and Denise. \u201cThe family is not my family, but there are elements of some of the characters that resemble things that I experienced,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd some of it is like with my wife and our friends and family [now].
