News of Hottle’s death was first shared by her father Joshua Hottle in an emotional video posted to Facebook, with the Texas School For The Deaf \u2014 where Kaylee studied as a child \u2014 further confirming the news in a statement on Instagram.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 2007 to American Sign Language speaking, hard of hearing parents Ketsi Carlson and Joshua Hottle, Kaylee Hottle caught her first break on-screen before she’d even reached high school. In 2017, Hottle \u2014 who had already appeared in several TV ads and projects made in support of and advocacy for the hearing impaired community \u2014 starred in a commercial for video relay service Convo<\/em>. By the end of the following year, the fully fluent ASL speaker had caught the attention of Godzilla Vs Kong<\/em> casting director Sarah Halley Finn, who just so happened to be on the lookout for a young star to play Jia Andrews, a deaf orphan who shares a very special non-verbal bond with the blockbuster’s outsized simian star.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n While the MonsterVerse movies aren’t often remembered first and foremost for the depth and rich inner lives of their human characters, Kaylee Hottle brought real heart and soul to the franchise as Skull Island native Jia. It would’ve been so exciting to see what awaited Jia in next summer’s Godzilla x Kong: Supernova<\/em>.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Speaking to The AU Review<\/em> while promoting The New Empire<\/em>, Kaylee Hottle laid out her hopes for what starring in the MonsterVerse movies may be able to do for the community she always held so close to heart and championed her whole life through. “I\u2019m acting in monster movies as a deaf person,” Hottle told the outlet. “I want deaf people to know that they can do that too, just like me.
