What do you get when you cross two of the hottest directors around with one of the most beloved millennial franchises in all of film and the star of 2026’s biggest horror movie? Well, we may just be about to find out folks. According to THR<\/em>, Michael Johnston \u2014 breakout star of Curry Barker’s wildly successful Obsession<\/em> \u2014 isn’t done with dabbling in the supernatural just yet: in fact, he’s in talks to star alongside Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah in Radio Silence’s very hotly anticipated upcoming The Mummy<\/em> legacy sequel.<\/p>\n

As the star of Curry Barker’s unexpected blockbuster Obsession<\/em>, a Monkey’s Paw chiller that cost $750,000 to make and then made a staggering $458 million at the box office, Michael Johnston \u2014 despite having previously starred in the Teen Wolf<\/em> TV series and given his voice to everything from God Of War<\/em> to X-Men ’97<\/em> \u2014 has become something of an overnight superstar. As such, it’s unsurprising that the Radio Silence guys, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (of Ready Or Not<\/em>, Abigail<\/em>, and Scream<\/em> fame), have courted the actor to join their secrecy-shrouded sequel \u2014 especially considering how well their general vibe and Johnston’s in Obsession<\/em> fit. And while it bears (or should that be Bears?) repeating that Johnston is only in early talks for Radio Silence’s latest at this stage, the prospect of such an exciting new talent appearing on-screen alongside our already beloved adventurers Rick, Evelyn, and Jonathan is a tantalising one to say the least.<\/p>\n

Plot details on this legacy sequel, believed to be a direct follow-up to The Mummy Returns<\/em>, are being kept firmly under bandages for the time being, as you’d expect. That being said, the Radio Silence guys did<\/em> recently share with Empire<\/em> that screenwriter David Coggeshall has turned in “a very beautiful and sweeping and scary and fun” script\u2014 and those are all very good words to be hearing. With The Mummy 4<\/em> set to shoot later this year in London and Morocco and currently slated for a 15 October, 2027 cinema release, we expect we’ll be hearing lots more about this one very soon. We guess you could say that we may have just found our next obsession… now don’t mind us while we snap this One Wish Willow to get Oded Fehr on board. What could possibly go wrong, eh?<\/p>\n
