Did you watch last year’s Wicked: For Good and find yourself inexplicably drawn towards Jonathan Bailey’s strawified Fiyero? Are you here for what we are dubbing Olivia Colman’s ‘Willem Dafoe’ era? If you answered yes to any of the above, then we may have just the movie for you: Wicker. Billed as ‘a comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention’, Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston’s movie stars Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman who commissions Peter Dinklage to make her a wicker husband. Said wicker husband is Alexander Skarsgård. And what follows really has to be seen to be believed. Check out the NSFW (that’s Not Safe For Weaving) trailer below;

Don’t say we didn’t warn you! We can’t say we had ‘Olivia Colman gets randy with a rattan Alexander Skarsgård’ on our 2026 bingo card, but having now seen the trailer for Wicker, we’d be lying if we said our curiosity hasn’t been piqued about this quite literal basket-case of a concept for a story. Sure, the premise is barmy, and the cadre of stellar supporting players — Elizabeth Debicki, Phil Daniels, Nabhaan Rizwan, Richard E. Grant — seem to be having a tonne of fun with the r-rated material, but the real draw here is the prospect of seeing two of the most fearless and outré actors working today coming together (steady on) for a romance seemingly written (well, woven) in the stars. Who doesn’t want to be called Colman’s timber knight and witty ox? Who doesn’t want to be called Skarsgård’s soft-bodied female animal? Exactly.

And here’s the official Wicker synopsis: “On the outskirts of a village by the sea, lives a Fisherwoman; smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed. One day, fed up with her stuffy, small-minded neighbours, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker. In an otherwise conservative town, this unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos.”

Boasting arguably one of the greatest, not to mention raunchiest taglines in contemporary film (‘A hard man is good to find’), Wicker surely won’t be one to miss when it arrives in UK cinemas on 30 October.

Are you a fan of Craig Gillespie’s Ryan Gosling starring sex doll rom-com Lars And The Real Girl?
