Dave Bautista is a man who’s no stranger to a moniker. In WWE he was ‘The Animal’ Batista; across the Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/em> trilogy, he gave us Drax The Destroyer; and in Dune<\/em>, our man Dave unleashed the ‘Beast’ Rabban. But could ‘God Of War’ be the next title bestowed upon the superstar wrestler-turned-thespian? Following last month’s shocking news that Ryan Hurst has had to exit Amazon’s live-action God Of War series mid-shoot, Variety<\/em> is reporting that Bautista is in talks to take on the role of Kratos in Prime Video\u2019s ambitious upcoming videogame adaptation.<\/p>\n

Having only been cast in Ronald D. Moore’s prestige take on Santa Monica Studios’ ‘god-and-his-boy’ Norse saga games back in January, Sons Of Anarchy<\/em> star Hurst was force to quit God Of War<\/em> with four episodes already in the can after tearing his bicep back in June. While the actor is expected to make a full recovery following successful surgery, the half-year-plus road to that recovery has necessitated a change at the top of the series’ call sheet to meet Amazon and Sony’s production schedule. And with Dave Bautista hitting the trifecta of A) possessing a self-evidently Kratos-primed physique, B) also boasting considerable dramatic chops (see: Knock At The Cabin<\/em>, Blade Runner 2049<\/em>, The Last Showgirl<\/em>), and C) knowing his way around major franchise material with a passionate fanbase, it’s not exactly hard to see why Amazon may come a-knocking.<\/p>\n

Despite recent as-yet-unfounded hearsay about the futures of several other God Of War<\/em> cast members, as it stand the rest of the ensemble for Moore’s series remains as it ever was. Callum Vinson is still on to play Kratos\u2019 kid Atreus, while we can also continue to look forward to seeing Max Parker as Heimdall, \u00d3lafur Darri \u00d3lafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Thor’s wife Phoebe\/Sif, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur. And with the plan now reportedly being for the series’ cast and crew to regroup in mid-August ahead of an expected mid-October start on reshooting, expect more on Bautista’s involvement here very soon. In the meantime, we continue to wish Ryan Hurst a speedy recovery.<\/p>\n
