Among everything Marvel Studios has brought to the small screen over the years, one ongoing narrative has emerged as a rare and interesting thing. WandaVision<\/em> \u2013 the first streaming series to arrive in the MCU \u2013 was an instant beloved masterpiece, followed in 2024 by the gloriously witchy adventure, Agatha All Along<\/em>. And now, the threads of those series continue in VisionQuest<\/em>, a series which culminates an MCU streaming trilogy. After Wanda and Agatha each went on reality-warping metaphysical journeys in their respective series, this time it\u2019s the turn of Paul Bettany\u2019s Vision (in the all-white form he became at the end of WandaVision<\/em>) to go on an existential odyssey, this time joined by none other than his sort-of-dad \u2013 and Avengers mega-baddie \u2013 James Spader\u2019s Ultron. In keeping with the playful presentation and reality-breaking nature of WandaVision<\/em> and Agatha<\/em>, VisionQuest<\/em> looks to be another psychedelic unravelling in MCU form, as Bettany\u2019s Vision ponders the nature of his existence. Is he a normal guy, working in a pub? Or is he an android \u2013 reconstructed from a formerly-deceased prior model of himself \u2013 now trying to understand his own nature having been extricated from the fabricated reality he blissfully inhabited with Wanda Maximoff? Well, quite.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

We see Vision entering a mansion that seems to be a digital projection of his own mind, in which also resides Spader\u2019s Ultron \u2013 sometimes also assuming a human form, with a Hot Fuzz<\/em>-worthy great big bushy beard \u2013 and James D\u2019Arcy\u2019s Jarvis, butler of Howard Stark (Tony\u2019s dad), who proved the inspiration for Tony\u2019s J.A.R.V.I.S operating system, which in part birthed Ultron. Still following? We also see Vision looking back on fond family \u2018memories\u2019 (or are they, since they were maybe not real?) from WandaVision<\/em>. And, it seems, their son Tommy Maximoff is still out there somewhere, now a teenager played by Ruaridh Mollica \u2013 just as his brother Billy Maximoff, aka Wiccan, proved to be a significant figure in Agatha All Along<\/em>, played by Joe Locke. \u201cFree your soul, and save your son,\u201d Ultron implored Vision.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In short, it looks like a real brain-teaser, continuing one of the more ambitious experiments from Marvel\u2019s TV era \u2013 here\u2019s hoping it lives up to the previous two shows. We\u2019ll find out when VisionQuest<\/em> comes to Disney+ from October 14.<\/p>\n
