Despite Sony\u2019s double State of Play this week being a little bit of a dud \u2014 though did you catch the hard-as-hell new Resident Evil clip at the very beginning? \u2014 the trailer-sphere nonetheless kept chugging along as it always does. We got a new look at Street Fighter and a bunch more trailers ahead of Venice and Toronto Film Festivals for movies that are already catching Oscar buzz, a holdover from gamescom, and an indie game that caught my attention at the Tribeca Festival this past summer. These are the trailers worth checking out this week (and here\u2019s what you missed last week).<\/p>\n

Street Fighter<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s been about four months since the last Street Fighter trailer, and with a little more than a month before release, I\u2019m excited we got another 3-ish minute taste of what to expect from the Kitao Sakurai-directed movie. I might never not be taken aback by blond Noah Centineo as Ken, but the tone of this movie remains convincingly super fun. Like Eric Andre spittles in the new trailer, \u201cThis is STREET FIGHTERRRRR!\u201d <\/p>\n

Stranger Than Heaven official gameplay<\/h2>\n

As a member of the RGG hive \u2014 if this isn\u2019t you, you\u2019re making a big mistake with your life \u2014 this extended look at the environments and fight mechanics of the not-Yakuza-prequel game Stranger Than Heaven from gamescom has me mega-hyped. As we\u2019ve already previewed out of SGF, the combat definitely looks more difficult than RGG\u2019s other non-turn-based games, but I\u2019m glad they still found a way to make early-to-mid-1900s street goons look nearly as ridiculous as present-day Kamurocho. <\/p>\n

Stranger Than Heaven releases on PS5, Xbox X|S, and PC on January 15, 2027.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ink <\/h2>\n

Danny Boyle seems to have locked the eff in for Ink, starring Jack O\u2019Connell and Guy Pearce, who are both always locked in, as Larry Lamb and Rupert Murdoch as they orchestrate the salacious relaunch of the British tabloid The Sun while Claire Foy tries to talk some sense into them. Maybe it\u2019s too on the nose for a media person to be excited about a media movie, but Ink, which just premiered at the Venice Film Festival, has me hooked.<\/p>\n

Ink releases in theaters December 11 before coming to Netflix on January 8.<\/em><\/p>\n

Until Dawn 2<\/h2>\n

The first look at Until Dawn 2 in Sony\u2019s June State of Play gave very little in the way of \u201cwhat are we getting into here?\u201d This new clip from this week\u2019s presentation revealed the release date and more about the concept: It\u2019s set during a reality-show shoot on a haunted tropical island where the slimy host\/producer goads the cast into messy situations that you, the player, need to decide how to react.<\/p>\n

Until Dawn 2 releases on PS5 January 28, 2027.<\/em><\/p>\n

Rhapsody in Scarlet<\/h2>\n

Konami\u2019s new game reveal: Baffling! Sign me up. Set in the 1920s jazz scene in New York City, Rhapsody in Scarlet is an action game where the characters use magic and direct large beasts to fight, I guess. Again, very jazzy. I\u2019m intrigued.<\/p>\n

Pendulum<\/h2>\n

A horror movie? Releasing on January 1??? There\u2019s absolutely no way this movie, written and directed by Black Swan co-writer Mark Heyman, is going to be making year-end lists in 2027, but it seems like a wellness cult movie that\u2019ll make the winter movie graveyard a little more fun. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Norman Reedus, and Phoebe Dynevor star.<\/p>\n

Pendulum releases in theaters January 1.<\/em><\/p>\n

Rebounder<\/h2>\n

I got to play a demo of Rebounder at the Tribeca Festival this summer and it was easily among my favorite games. It\u2019s a tricky but addicting precision platformer rocking an insanely cool hyper-stylized, newspaper comics-print art direction as you bounce around an alien planet in an astronaut suit. The new trailer came with the announcement that Rebounder is being published by Aggro Crab, which also put out the viral friendslop (affectionately) game Peak.<\/p>\n

La Bola Negra\u2019s directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi won the best directing award at Cannes, where it premiered. The Spanish-language film, following three generations of men across three era-defining years in Spain\u2019s history, has since been celebrated as an early Oscar lock. Netflix certainly has high hopes for it: The streamer is giving it a chunky qualifying theatrical run, with no streaming date attached yet. <\/p>\n

The Unknown<\/h2>\n

L\u00e9a Seydoux stars alongside Neils Schneider in this French-language body-swap horror written and directed by the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Anatomy of a Fall, Arthur Harari. This first teaser is short, sub-2 minutes, but this highlight reel of Seydoux\u2019s reactions has me sold. (Also, people who reviewed it out of Cannes had nice things to say about it; it\u2019ll make the rounds at the Toronto and New York film festivals.)<\/p>\n

The Unknown doesn\u2019t have a release date yet.<\/em><\/p>\n
