And while the exact nature of the greed, betrayal, and murder at hand here is a little hard to parse in a 60-second teaser trailer, the storm that Ritchie \u2014 pulling double duty as writer-director \u2014 is brewing certainly looks to be of thunderous consequence. From Fairbank family patriarch Hopkins’ ominous tale of a man in a pit, to the framing of Cumberbatch’s character as the one left for dead who’s dug through hell to exact revenge, to the murderers row assembled by Ritchie to play their part in the drama unfolding (Cosmo Jarvis! James Norton! Paddy Considine!), the stage is perfectly set for a Ritchie special. And that’s ignoring the blood-red shots of Cumberbatch making particularly creative use of a pool cue and going full beast mode with a shotgun. Why is Benedict Cumberbatch out for blood? Whose blood is he out for? Is that Tom Davis we spy in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot midway through the trailer?
