Grand Theft Auto 5’s story DLC was seemingly going to take players to Paris, if leaked footage is anything to go by.<\/p>\n
Last week, a slew of files and assets from GTA 5 surfaced online. This leak showed off variety of cut content, prompting Rockstar to take action and issue takedowns to creators who were showing it in their videos. One of the most interesting parts of this leak has been seeing all of the scrapped DLC, which includes a Liberty City map expansion. <\/p>\n
Fans have also uncovered new information about the game’s fabled story DLC, which was formally announced by Rockstar in 2013 with a 2014 release window in mind. Unfortunately, none of it ever saw the light of day, as Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online became higher priorities. One of the DLCs would’ve followed Trevor assuming the role of a secret agent, tackling dirty jobs for the government and assassinating powerful foes. Much of this was already known, but what fans likely weren’t aware that this DLC was also seemingly going to take players to Paris.<\/p>\n
In the leaked files, players were able to look at some of the unfinished levels made for this DLC, and one of them includes some kind of luxury apartment that overlooks Paris. The Eiffel Tower can be seen outside of a balcony, though it’s just a flat image rather than an explorable 3D environment. It’s entirely possible that this apartment would’ve been the extent of the overseas adventure, potentially being used for a cutscene or maybe some kind of assassination mission.<\/p>\n
The only other time Grand Theft Auto has taken players overseas was in GTA: London 1969, which was an expansion for the original game released in 1999. Some fans have hoped to see the series go abroad, but the franchise’s former writer and creative director, Dan Houser, suggested that the series wouldn’t work as well outside of America.<\/p>\n
“I think for a full GTA game, we always decided there was so much Americana inherent in the IP, it would be really hard to make it work in London or anywhere else,” said Houser in 2025. “You know, you needed guns, you needed these larger-than-life characters. It just felt like the game was so much about America, possibly from an outsider’s perspective. But that was so much about what the thing was that it wouldn’t really have worked in the same way elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
