Well, if you look to the likes of <em>Sh\u014dgun<\/em> and <em>Big Little Lies<\/em>, then the answer is simple: when it&#8217;s bagged itself heaps of critical acclaim and a buzzy awards run, of course. And so seems to be the case once more as <em>Variety<\/em> is reporting that Netflix&#8217;s prestige cat and mouse thriller <em>The Beast In Me<\/em> \u2014 whose first outing just helped star Matthew Rhys make history at this year&#8217;s Emmys \u2014 has been renewed for Season 2 at the streamer. And, what&#8217;s more, Claire Danes&#8217; Aggie Wiggs is returning too, presumably to collect more morbid inspiration for her next book.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"content-module-scss-module__RI8h6a__content\" data-test=\"content\"><\/p>\n<p>The first season of <em>The Beast In Me<\/em> saw Danes&#8217; grieving mother and blocked-up author Aggie drawing dark inspiration for her latest book from new next-door neighbour Nile (Rhys), a real-estate magnate&#8217;s son who may or may not have been involved in the mysterious disappearance of his first wife. And while we won&#8217;t spoil how Season 1 eventually panned out, sole confirmation of Danes&#8217; return in front of the camera certainly suggests a new story awaits both for her and for us. First season showrunner Howard Gordon is back for Season 2 though, this time sharing his duties with the series&#8217; executive producer Daniel Pearle.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"content-module-scss-module__RI8h6a__content\" data-test=\"content\"><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always told ourselves we\u2019d only do a second season of \u2018The Beast in Me\u2019 if we found a story that was worthy of the first \u2013 and I\u2019m thrilled to say we found it,\u201d said Gordon in a state confirming the psychological thriller&#8217;s return. \u201cWe loved making this show and our audience seemed to love watching it, so we\u2019re enormously grateful to Jinny Howe and Netflix, and to Karey Burke and 20th Television for giving us the chance to get the band back together and do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"content-module-scss-module__RI8h6a__content\" data-test=\"content\"><\/p>\n<p>At this point, what creator Gabe Rotter has in store for us with <em>The Beast In Me<\/em> Season 2 very much remains to be seen \u2014 plot, cast, release date, the whole kit and caboodle. But after <em>that<\/em> first outing and its jaw-slackening finale, one thing is for sure: we&#8217;ll be seated whenever <em>The Beast In Me<\/em> is uncaged once again.
