Last November, Amazon announced a new Stargate series from franchise veteran and <em>Blindspot<\/em> creator Martin Gero. Then, just seven months later, Uncle Bezos decided to close his waller and Gero&#8217;s Stargate was unceremoniously axed before it had even begun. Now, per <em>Variety<\/em>&#8216;s reporting, it looks like Amazon are ready to reopen the Stargate again after all, only this time with <em>WandaVision<\/em> creator Jac Schaeffer aboard to send some new recruits through the series&#8217; titular ring-shaped portals.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"content-module-scss-module__RI8h6a__content\" data-test=\"content\"><\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Variety<\/em>, Schaeffer \u2014 who has an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios \u2014 is developing an all-new <em>Stargate<\/em> series for Prime Video, with a writers&#8217; room expected to be open in the very near future and producer spouses Joby Harold (<em>Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>) and Tory Tunnell (<em>Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters<\/em>) aboard to executive produce. Further details on what Schaeffer is cooking, and whether past projects such as the&nbsp;original 1994 Kurt Russell movie,&nbsp;<em>Stargate SG-1<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Stargate: Atlantis<\/em>, and <em>Stargate: Universe<\/em> will remain canon or have any connection to this proposed new series all remain firmly under wraps&#8230; at least for now.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"content-module-scss-module__RI8h6a__content\" data-test=\"content\"><\/p>\n<p>Living as we do in an age of peak sci-fi TV, with everything from <em>Alien: Earth<\/em>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<em>The Expanse<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Foundation<\/em>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<em>Silo<\/em>, and&nbsp;<em>3 Body Problem<\/em>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em> lighting up our small screens to give us our speculative fiction fix in recent times, maybe \u2014 just maybe! \u2014 now could <em>finally<\/em> be the time to bring Stargate back after 16 years on the backburner. And if anyone can do it, then Schaeffer \u2014 whose <em>WandaVision<\/em> and <em>Agatha All Along<\/em> both demonstrate proper genre bona fides and still rank among the finest series of the MCU&#8217;s Disney+ era \u2014 surely can.
