After a weekend in which multiple rumors and reports pointed to an internal delay of Microsoft\u2019s Fable reboot beyond its fall 2026 release window and potentially into 2027, the official Fable social media account has stepped in to reiterate its previously announced date.<\/p>\n
Giant Bomb\u2019s Jeff Grubb said that there was concern at Microsoft about Fable potentially running up against the behemoth that is Grand Theft Auto 6, which currently has a November 19, 2026 release date.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll say that I\u2019ve heard that Fable has been pushed internally,\u201d Grubb said. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean that it\u2019s coming out next year. Apparently, they\u2019re still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. And so if it\u2019s getting delayed beyond the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027. So while Xbox will have a lot of games coming out this year, that\u2019s one that there\u2019s still a big question mark around.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, the official Fable X \/ Twitter account this morning responded to a fan to say \u201cwe’re excited to welcome you to Albion in Autumn 2026!\u201d That reiteration of the release window is telling here, and a thinly veiled response to the weekend\u2019s reports.<\/p>\n
Still, it\u2019s easy to imagine Microsoft fussing over release dates this year, as I imagine most AAA video game publishers are doing, in the face of GTA 6. And Microsoft has many release dates still to solidify. While we know Playground\u2019s other game, Forza Horizon 6, launches May 19, it has yet to announce a release date for Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, which is still down for a 2026 launch, the next Call of Duty, rumored to be Modern Warfare 4, and the aforementioned Fable.<\/p>\n
Fans will undoubtedly get a clearer idea of Microsoft\u2019s release plans from its Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. Microsoft has already said Gears of War: E-Day will be there, and we suspect Fable and the new Call of Duty will be, too, alongside release date announcements. Perhaps we\u2019ll see more of InXile’s Clockwork Revolution, Undead Labs’ State of Decay 3, and maybe even Hideo Kojima\u2019s OD.<\/p>\n
