But in <em>Aliens<\/em>, Ripley truly became an icon; James Cameron\u2019s more action-oriented sequel seeing her tool up to take on dozens of marauding Xenomorphs. Whether putting the Colonial Marine grunts in their place, going head-to-head with the alien queen in the Powerloader, or protecting young orphan Newt, the film sees Ripley kick ass.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"content_content__i0P3p\" data-test=\"content\"><\/p>\n<p>All these years later, Weaver still looks fondly on <em>Aliens<\/em> \u2013 particularly the outlook that Cameron brought to Ripley. \u201cI love the seriousness that you brought to it. It\u2019s life and death for Ripley,\u201d she tells the director in Empire\u2019s 40th anniversary reunion interview. Still, the production of the film was notably tough. \u201cThe whole thing was so exciting but it was also really hard,\u201d says Weaver. \u201cI think of everyone, of those huge guns and all that stuff. Everyone was really going for it, man. It was so real and it was such a gift.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"content_content__i0P3p\" data-test=\"content\"><\/p>\n<p>After the production, with the pressure lifting, Weaver remembers seeing a different side to her director. \u201cWe were having dinner one night with Gale and I suddenly said, \u201cYou know, you\u2019re really funny. Where was <em>this<\/em> guy all the way through that shoot?!\u201d she says. \u201cI just don\u2019t think you could [be like that], because you had all of that proving yourself to the crew. They thought, \u2018Who is this guy?
