Alix Wilton Regan on Becoming Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis | IGN Live 2026

Lara Croft is going back to the beginning in the upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a new remake of the original Tomb Raider game from 1996. Taking on the beloved role of Lara Croft for this incarnation is Alix Wilton Regan (Assassin’s Creed Origins, Dota: Dragon’s Blood), who spoke about the game and her famous character at IGN Live today.

During the panel, IGN debuted a snippet of the new “Meet Lara Croft” featurette in which Regan and the game’s creators speak about the long legacy of the character and bringing to life her latest incarnation, and which you can watch the full video of above.

So what’s it like stepping into the shoes (or boots) of a character as well known as Lara Croft? Said Regan, “It’s amazing. Lara is a British cultural icon, she’s a global icon. She is loved and I love her as much as everyone else, so I’m ecstatic.” She described Lara as “so completely confident in herself, in her abilities, her brain, her body, her being.”

Regan doesn’t just have Legacy of Atlantis on the way, she’s also playing Lara in the upcoming Tomb Raider: Catalyst, where she will embody an older Lara, on the heels of playing the younger version in Legacy of Atlantis. Regarding her approach to keeping the different ages distinct, Regan explained, “You break them down as much as possible. You ask your collaborators to help you keep track of it that because it is tricky. We’re trying to do something different with the voice in each game.”

Regan revealed that for Legacy of Atlantis, “We’ve lifted some of the most iconic lines from the first Tomb Raider,” saying she loved “Just getting to play those lines with kind of that 90s sass being brought up to 2026.” She also teased “A brilliant cast attached that I’m really sorry I can’t disclose yet!”

Regan admitted the mocap work she’d done for Tomb Raider could be physically taxing, noting “We’ve done huge three week shoots at a time” and laughing “You get a bit hot and sweaty and extremely intimate with your costars doing ten hours in a mocap suit.”

Regan said for extra inspiration to keep going during those long days, “I spend a lot of time looking at Lara’s little avatar on screen… She is so smoking hot! I think we can all agree on that.”

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be released February 12, 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
