It’s been three years since we learned that David Robert Mitchell’s seminal 21st century horror movie It Follows would officially be getting a sequel, They Follow, with the first movie’s star Maika Monroe on board to return. Since then, updates on the project — set a decade after the events of that iconic first STC (that’s Sexually Transmitted Curse, obvs) chiller — have been few and far between. But after learning last month that Naomi Ackie was in final talks to star in Mitchell’s movie, today Deadline has revealed ten new names joining the call sheet — including Michael Gandolfini, star of Daredevil: Born Again and Alex Garland’s Warfare.
Also among the ‘They’ that are either following or being followed in They Follow (try saying that after a few alcopops) will be *deep breath* Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children), Justine Lupe (Nobody Wants This), Anna Mirodin (Priscilla), Jayne Taini (Station 19), Tom Pecinka (Stereophonic), Melora Walters (Venom), Ben Krieger (Song Sung Blue), Natalie Shinnick (The Testament Of Ann Lee), and Jan Hoag (The Fabelmans). Deadline has now also confirmed that Naomi Ackie is officially set to star in the film too.
Elsewhere, while precious little else is known about what They Follow will entail, Empire did excitingly confirm a few more major returns for David Robert Mitchell’s horror sequel earlier this month. Speaking to us for our The Odyssey issue, Mitchell confirmed that It Follows‘ cinematographer Mike Gioulakis, editor Julio C. Perez IV, and composer Disasterpeace will all be back to help pour some fresh nightmare fuel on the Follows fire, too.
“I’m very proud of the script,” teased a tight-lipped Mitchell when Empire spoke to the filmmaker about returning to the Follows-verse. “It is its own unique thing, while still being very much connected to the first film. It’s doing something cool that is going to be really fun.” As keen fans of cool and really fun things, and big fans of the talent both behind and in front of the camera here, suffice it to say we’re ready to go wherever They Follow.
