Calling all True Believers! Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just days away from hitting cinema screens, bringing with it the return of Tom Holland as Peter Parker — aka everybody’s favourite Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man. But as anyone who’s been trying to binge-watch all the previous Spidey movies — from Sam Raimi’s _Spider-Man _to multiversal epic Across The Spider-Verse — ahead of time will doubtless already know, it has historically been a bit of a nightmare keeping track of where the movies are streaming in the UK. Rejoice then, Spider-Fans: all 10 Spider-Man movies to date just landed on BBC iPlayer!
Yep, you heard us right — as of Sunday 19 July, you can catch up on the whole Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, both of Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man outings, the complete MCU ‘Home’ trilogy (including Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: No Way Home), and Sony Pictures Animation’s spectacular Into The Spider-Verse and Across The Spider-Verse movies for free on BBC iPlayer. (Well, ‘free’ in the sense that if you have a TV licence then all of the films are available at no extra charge on the streamer.) If you happen to have ever wondered why the complete big-screen adventures of Marvel’s web-headed wall crawler aren’t all just on Disney+ — or, rather, why only some of them are on there some of the time — then that’d be because Sony Pictures holds the distribution rights to Spider-Man’s back catalogue, not Disney, and so the various Peter Parker/Miles Morales movies tend to be given the same treatment as most major studios’ titles, hopping between whichever streamer currently has a licensing deal with Sony. And right now, that streamer just so happens to be the Beeb’s!
So, with 10 days to go until Destin Daniel Cretton’s Brand New Day thwips into cinemas at the time of writing this, you could ditch the World Cup Final, start your Spideython tonight, and finish right on cue to see the MCU’s Peter Parker enter ‘Spider-Puberty’, meet Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and get thwacked by what very much appears to be a returning Savage Hulk. Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?
