Ask anyone with small children in their lives, and the sentiment will likely be echoed unanimously: Bluey rules. The adorable kids show – that plays just as well to grown-ups, with its witty and insightful ruminations on childhood and parenting – has been a global sensation thanks to its charming Aussie characters, its emotionally-nuanced world, and its sharp sense of humour. Which means the not-too-distant arrival of The Bluey Movie is just as exciting for grown-ups as kids – and at Disney’s D23 Expo, the first teaser trailer for the film was debuted. Check it out here:
It’s just a brief first look, but the charming small-scale nature of the show is replicated already here, with Bluey and Bingo simply playing a game of keepy-uppy in their back garden with a red balloon. Except, there’s an immediate different here too: The Bluey Movie, like many cartoon-to-film adaptations before it, will see the characters take the leap into 3D form. The never-revealed voices of the kids seem to still be the same, though – hopefully everything fans love about Bluey on the small screen (including that earworm title music) will remain present in their first fully-fledged cinematic outing.
The Bluey Movie is nearly a year off yet – Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, Chilli (and maybe some figures from Kindy too) will be hitting cinemas on August 6, 2027.
