Not that there’s ever been a bad time to be a Slow Horses fan, but the getting’s been particularly good for stans of Slough House’s finest lately. Star Jack Lowden is firmly in the Bond conversation, the show just bagged a well-earned Emmy last night for last season’s ‘Scars’ episode, and Season 6 arrives on Apple TV this week. And the good news doesn’t end there, folks. Today, Apple has confirmed that with Season 7 already well on its way, Slow Horses Season 8 is officially in the works.
Set to adapt Mick Herron’s Clown Town, the ninth book in the author’s bestselling Slough House spy thriller series, Season 8 — per Apple’s own synopsis — “sees Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner face off in their most explosive confrontation yet.” Not only does this seemingly confirm that Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas will make it through Season 6 (and 7) in one piece, but the synopsis actually goes on to detail a little of what to expect in two seasons’ time. “When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all.” So far so Slow Horses, eh?
At a time where audiences are often left waiting years between seasons of their favourite shows, Apple and the Slow Horses creators’ commitment to knocking out a new run of episodes every year — and at such consistently high quality — is borderline miraculous. And while we don’t know what’s going to happen in the show between now and Season 8’s arrival presumably sometime in 2028, or indeed who’ll make it that far, we do know that we’ll still be watching and quietly judging Jackson Lamb’s weaponised flatulence. Until then, Slow Horses Season 6 kicks off on Apple TV on September 16, and suffice it to say the latest run is not to be missed.
