What a week this is turning out to be for fans of the Reacherverse, folks. On Monday we brought you news that, following another barnstorming season on Prime Video, Amazon’s Alan Ritchson led action-thriller series Reacher has landed itself an early Season 6 renewal. And now, nary 72 hours later, the good news keeps on coming as THR has confirmed that the franchise’s first spin-off, Neagley, centred around Maria Sten’s Chicago-based PI Frances Neagley, has just scored a renewal of its own and will be returning for Season 2 at the streamer.
Having premiered on Prime Video just two weeks ago and landed as the platform’s fourth most-viewed streaming debut of all time, Neagley — which found Sten’s standoffish private eye teaming up with local detective Hudson Riley (Greyston Holt) to investigate the grizzly murder of one of her childhood friends — has proven a hit with fans, proving that the Reacher franchise can work without its eponymous man mountain. In fact, part of the draw with Neagley has been seeing co-creator Nicholas Wootton and showrunner Nick Santora relish the opportunity to draw outside the lines of Lee Child’s Reacher books while exploring the whens, whys, and hows of Frances Neagley, her haphephobia (fear of touching), and what makes her tick.
“Audiences around the world have embraced Frances Neagley as a force all her own,” said Peter Friedlander, Amazon MGM Studios’ head of Global Television, in a statement accompanying the show’s renewal. “Maria Sten delivers a commanding, layered performance that drives every episode, and [co-showrunners] Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton have built a world that is both thrilling and compelling.” We look forward to being thrilled and compelled all over again whenever Neagley Season 2 — and Reacher Season 5 and 6 for that matter — hits our screens. All hail Prime Video, the home of dadcore streaming series. Long may its reign continue!
