You know how it is: you spend ages waiting for a stylised, noir Prime Video superhero series and then two come along all at once. And after the bizarrely brilliant, Nic Cage starring Spider-Noir last month, next month is bringing with it Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2, the next chapter in Bruce Timm’s dark, moody, incredibly underrated spiritual successor to his own legendary nineties hit, Batman: The Animated Series. And with The Riddler, Joker, and a whole host of deep-cuts from DC’s rogues’ gallery awaiting Hamish Linklater’s Dark Knight this time out, it looks like we’re in for a blockbuster second season. Check out the trailer below;
Holy villain-stuffed trailer, Batman! No sooner have we finished catching our breath following that explosive Caped Crusader Season 1 finale than Timm and executive producers Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams are back with what’s looking like another doozy of a season. After The Penguin, Catwoman, and Two-Face took centre stage in the show’s first outing, this time it appears Bats is facing new threats from all angles — including Edward ‘The Riddler’ Nygma (voiced, seemingly, by one Dave Franco — an official cast list has yet to materialise), that Clown Prince of Crime The Joker, and a whole bunch more monikered wrong’uns (hello Firefly, Manbat, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter!) All this, and Batman/Bruce Wayne still finds himself under intense public, private, and mental scrutiny as chaos reigns over Gotham and its citizens continue to wonder whether the Bat has come to save or condemn them all. Suffice it to say, this really isn’t your average superhero cartoon.
With cameras finally rolling on Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, this year’s Annecy teasing that puppet-based animated feature The Dynamic Duo is well on its way, and now this incredibly slick-looking, brooding Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 trailer dropping today, it feels like the drought is finally over for fans of Gotham’s Batfam. And the floodgates are officially set to open when Caped Crusader swoops onto Prime Video on 31 July.
