Resident Evil Trailer Sends Weapons’ Austin Abrams On A Hellish Trip To Raccoon City

We’re slap-bang in the middle of summer right now. But once The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The End Of Oak Street are done delivering popcorn thrills, it’ll be time to pivot to spooky-mode. And of all the horror offerings in the upcoming Halloween slate, one looks particularly exciting: Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil. The director of Weapons is already back with his follow-up film, a rollocking ride through the world of the beloved games, but with a story and character of Cregger’s own creation: Austin Abrams’ non-heroic normie, Bryan. The film’s latest trailer looks like an absolute blast – check it out here:

Now that’s how you deliver a great teaser while giving very little away. The trailer sets up everything that Cregger has said about the zombie movie so far: that its central character is a normal guy who is very much not equipped for the horrors of Resident Evil, and who battles with all the things players do in the game. Resource management! Finding bullets! Surviving attacks from horrific creatures! Abrams looks like a perfect way into that world, after proving a standout among the stacked cast of Weapons – and, as the end of the trailer makes it clear, he’s specifically heading into Raccoon City. Bad move, pal.

The good news is, there isn’t long to wait. Resident Evil is set to release in cinemas on September 18 – just when you want to be ramping up Spooky Season.
