If you happen to be a fan of Amazon’s billion-dollar Prime Video series The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, then it’s been quite the last seven days or so. Last week started with our world-exclusive Rings Of Power Season 3 cover launch and exciting reveals of Jamie Campbell Bower’s Celeborn, the menacing Nazgnagôl, and Daniel Weyman going full Gandalf. And it ended with a massive San Diego Comic-Con panel that gave us a new trailer for Season 3 and the reveal that Simon Pegg is voicing the shadow-and-flame shrouded Balrog in the LOTR prequel’s latest chapter. Now, we have a cool behind-the-scenes featurette shedding a little more light on the creatures from J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium that are set to take centre stage in Season 3 — check it out below;
Hero orcs! Pterodactyl-like Fellbeasts! Great elephantine Mûmakil! And the flame of Udûn itself, simmering, spitting fire, going fire-to-Morgoth’s-crown with Charlie Vickers’ Sauron himself! Sheesh… now that’s how you do a pulse-quickening featurette, folks. And beyond that, isn’t it just cool to see the remarkable unsung heroes behind the camera — like prosthetics designer Barrie Gower, VFX supervisor Jason Smith, exec producer Lindsey Weber — getting a chance to shine a light on the care and craft that goes into such a gargantuan production as this and into bringing Tolkien’s rich legendarium to our screens? To see core cast members like Morfydd Clark, Daniel Weyman, and Ismael Cruz- Córdova offering a peek behind the curtain into their process and the artistic tools they work with on a daily basis? The answer is yes — it is very cool.
Along with the fantastical creatures, cast, and craftspeople getting their well-earned flowers in this Rings Of Power Season 3 featurette, we do also get to see Simon Pegg reminiscing on being read The Hobbit as a child as we glimpse him in the booth, connecting with his inner monstrous Maiar. And while we don’t get to hear his Balrog here, we do at least see one of his lines on a big screen as the beast tells who we presume to be Sauron to “crawl back to your world above.” Somehow, we don’t think Sauron will take too kindly to old Bally’s suggestion… but we’ll see — and hear — how that particular encounter plays out when The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 3 premieres its first four episodes on Prime Video on 11 November, 2026. Now how’s that for a slice of fried gold?
