The World Cup may be over. Football may not be coming home. But do you know what is? Ted Lasso, that’s what. Yes, just when it seemed the full-time whistle had been blown on Apple TV’s cosy sports comedy with its third season in 2023, Jason Sudeikis and co decided to take their global smash into extra time with a fourth season — bringing back Sudeikis’ moustachioed football manager and some other familiar faces, but this time focused on AFC Richmond’s women’s team. Now, we have a new short trailer teasing what awaits when the new season kicks off. Check it out below;
“Welcome back,” says writer-star Brett Goldstein’s gruff-voiced ex-AFC Richmond captain Roy Kent at the start of this new teaser for Ted Lasso Season 4, “it’s good to see you.” And it sure is. Set to the stirring, banjo-strumming tones of Mumford & Sons’ ‘Run Together’, our latest look at Ted Lasso‘s return promises fan-pleasing reunions — Ted and Roy, Roy and Keeley (Juno Temple), Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Leslie (Jeremy Swift), and more — alongside a compelling new squad to cheer for from the stands (well, sofaplexes). Here we glimpse Tanya Reynolds’ women’s team co-coach Alice Chilton joining Ted and Coach Beard on the touchline, Andor and Adolescence‘s Faye Marsay hitting top bins on the pitch, and one of AFC Richmond Women’s players rebuffing the ‘football is life’ dictum of the great Dani Rojas (actor-turned-now-actual-professional-footballer Cristo Fernández) as she cooly states that “there is more to life than football.” Crazy, we know!
The official synopsis for Ted Lasso Season 4 — whose new oohort also includes Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and youngster Grant Feely — reads: “In season 4, Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
Can lightning strike twice at AFC Richmond — and for Ted Lasso — to create another winning season? Will Roy and Keeley finally just get it together and live happily ever after? Can we buy the team’s new home shirt anywhere? (Seriously, we want one!) We’ll find out when Ted Lasso kicks off its latest campaign on Apple TV on 5 August. It’s time to believe in believe once more…
