Frankly, we’re still trying to get our heads around it: Wonder Man, the hit Marvel show that received huge acclaim, won’t be getting a Season 2 after all. This, despite an official confirmation months ago that a new set of episodes were in the works, some early promotion for Season 2 just weeks ago, and the fact that its executive producer Destin Daniel Cretton is this very weekend set to achieve major success with a box-office-busting launch for his Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s a curious move – and the show’s star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays actor Simon Williams taking on the role of screen hero Wonder Man, has reacted to the cancellation in an Instagram post.
It seems the actor is somewhat surprised about the walking back of a Season 2 as well. “Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2. (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww!),” he wrote. “That’s life, right? Everything will shake out. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it.” As well as thanking those who followed the show and supported it in YouTube videos, Abdul-Mateen II nodded to the awkwardness of his now-cancelled show currently being nominated for an Emmy, for his performance as Williams. “I’m glad we got to be a part of something cool. Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS,” he signed off.
