Good news for those shaken by the divorce of Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson in Marriage Story: they’re back together (in a fashion) in the new film from James Gray, Paper Tiger. Technically, they’re siblings-in-law, but they look set to bring some major clout to a stacked cast – also featuring Miles Teller. The film, marking Gray’s latest since 2022’s Armageddon Time, is a retro crime thriller, in which Driver and Teller play brothers caught in the crosshairs of the Russian mob. Check out the trailer:
Looks tense, huh? And with some gorgeously grainy 35mm cinematography courtesy of Joaquín Baca-Asay (who previously worked with Gray on We Own The Night and Two Lovers). Driver and Teller play Gary and Irwin Pearl, respectively, with Johansson as Irwin’s wife Hester – and it seems the whole family is danger once shady figures decide to target the Pearl brothers’ loved ones. Here’s the official synopsis: “Two brothers become entangled in a scheme that turns out to be too good to be true. As they try to navigate their way through the dangerous world of the Russian mafia, family bonds begin to fray with life-altering consequences.”
Paper Tiger received positive reviews out of Cannes earlier this year, and is hitting US screens on 13 November courtesy of Neon. Here’s hoping it won’t be too long a wait for UK audiences.
