Carving a bloody, Emmy-winning path through the competition, Amber Noizumi and Michael Green’s Kurosawa inspired adult animation Blue Eye Samurai was, comfortably, one of the best TV shows of 2023. Now, some three years later, Maya Erskine’s mixed-race samurai Mizu is about to set sail for London as her bloody quest for vengeance continues in Blue Eye Samurai Season 2. And with Netflix’s Anime NYC event confirming a third — and final — season of Edo era slicing and dicing is already in the works, the first trailer for Season 2 is here to tease the middle chapter in Mizu’s tale. Check it out below;
Well, well, well, after *that* cliffhanger Season 1 finale, it looks like Blue Eye Samurai is about to pick up right where it left off, with Mizu’s blade having just been at the throat of Kenneth Branagh’s Fowler and two men still out there, waiting to be tracked down as our sword-wielding heroine continues trying to find (and off) her potential fathers. And as we see in this visually stunning Season 2 teaser, our gal Mizu is braving hell and high waters to cross the ocean and make it to London, where the sprawl of Europe — and the end of a mysterious figure’s blade (let’s face it, that’ll probably be the hitherto below-deck-bound Fowler) — awaits.
The official synopsis for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 reads: “In the coming season, Mizu’s bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons. In Japan, Akemi (Brenda Song) and Taigen (Darren Barnet) navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun, while Ringo (Masi Oka) searches for a new purpose.”
With Blue Eye Samurai set to slice its way back onto our screens for Season 2 in January 2027, and Season 3 strafing its way around an expected 2028 release, our journey with Mizu has still barely even begun. Colour us very intrigued to see where it takes us next.
