WandaVision Creator Jac Schaeffer Developing Stargate Series At Amazon

The Stargate may have to be renamed the Star-revolving-door at this rate, Empirians. Last November, Amazon announced a new Stargate series from franchise veteran and Blindspot creator Martin Gero. Then, just seven months later, Uncle Bezos decided to close his waller and Gero’s Stargate was unceremoniously axed before it had even begun. Now, per Variety‘s reporting, it looks like Amazon are ready to reopen the Stargate again after all, only this time with WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer aboard to send some new recruits through the series’ titular ring-shaped portals.

According to Variety, Schaeffer — who has an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios — is developing an all-new Stargate series for Prime Video, with a writers’ room expected to be open in the very near future and producer spouses Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Tory Tunnell (Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters) aboard to executive produce. Further details on what Schaeffer is cooking, and whether past projects such as the original 1994 Kurt Russell movie, Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, and Stargate: Universe will remain canon or have any connection to this proposed new series all remain firmly under wraps… at least for now.

Living as we do in an age of peak sci-fi TV, with everything from Alien: Earth to The Expanse, Foundation to Silo, and 3 Body Problem to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds lighting up our small screens to give us our speculative fiction fix in recent times, maybe — just maybe! — now could finally be the time to bring Stargate back after 16 years on the backburner. And if anyone can do it, then Schaeffer — whose WandaVision and Agatha All Along both demonstrate proper genre bona fides and still rank among the finest series of the MCU’s Disney+ era — surely can. Consider us Primed and ready to go down, down, down the road, down the Stargate road once more… if this one actually makes it to air!
