Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Surprise Official New Update Announcement From CD Projekt

CD Projekt has announced a surprise update to Cyberpunk 2077, due out this week.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) launches Thursday, October 22, and while CD Projekt kept the details quiet, it has confirmed it will feature content “inspired” by the anime. Edgerunners 2 hits Netflix today, so this update is well-timed to capitalize on heightened interest in all things Cyberpunk 2077.

But what, exactly, is in the update itself? CD Projekt took to social media to confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will get “new items and features,” which includes the content inspired by Edgerunners 2.”

“Update 2.5 will be dropping on October 22, 2026, marking yet another opportunity to dive back into Night City or experience it for the very first time,” the developer continued.

What does new “features” mean? Fans are hoping for more than minor Edgerunners cosmetics. Rather, they’re hoping for substantial DLC that includes new content. Maybe even a new official, CD Projekt-made quest.

“So f***ing hyped about what we cooked for you,” teased Paweł Sasko, associate game director on the in-development Cyberpunk 2. Perhaps fans should get their hopes up, then.

Every CD Projekt Red Game In Development

More details about the Edgerunners 2 Update will be revealed on October 21, 2026, during a special episode of REDstreams, CD Projekt said. Patch notes are scheduled for publication on the same day. The free update itself launches across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 release to “follow shortly.”

Cyberpunk 2077 fans have been calling on CD Projekt to release meaningful DLC for some time now. Some even hold out hope for an expansion for the near six-year-old game, especially in light of the announcement of the Songs of the Past expansion for the 11-year-old The Witcher 3.

In May, CD Projekt insisted it had “no plans” for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs or expansions, disappointing fans. The comment suggested that fans would have to wait for Cyberpunk 2 for more from CD Projekt’s much-loved dystopian universe. And the wait looks like it’s going to be significant; Cyberpunk 2 is further behind The Witcher 4, and CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has suggested Cyberpunk 2 won’t be out until at least 2030.

But this news of a 2.5 update for Cyberpunk 2077 runs counter somewhat to CD Projekt’s statement in May, and has already got fans either dusting off their download, or redownloading the game in anticipation of what’s to come.

In July, CD Projekt confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold an incredible 40 million copies since its December 2020 launch, up 5 million from November 2025. It’s received one expansion so far, 2023’s Phantom Liberty starring Idris Elba.
