On a day where one President Donald J. Trump has lost a bid to have his name added to Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, along comes a stonking new trailer for Dune: Part Three — and with it a warning from star Timothée Chalamet that this film serves as a warning to be wary of charismatic leaders. Funny how these things work, isn’t it? But if reality is a little too much to handle right now, then Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming trilogy capper to his grand cinematic dream, a colossal three-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune, is just what the doctor ordered. And in our latest look at Dune: Part Three (aka Dun3), it is all kicking off as Chalamet’s Paul Atreides — aka the Lisan al Gaib (aka Space Hitler) — finds himself waging wars, facing his betrayed love Chani (Zendaya), and tangling with a shapeshifting Robert Pattinson! Check it out below;
Just when we thought The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be about to leave us all blockbustered out for the rest of 2026, along comes Villeneuve to say “Hold my sandworm popcorn bucket!” What. A. Trailer! There’s a lot going on in this latest look at Dune: Part Three, which takes place almost two decades on from Dune: Part Two and picks things up at a point in time where Paul Atreides has long since become not-so-benevolent ruler of the known universe. Based on Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, this safely looks like the darkest chapter yet in Villeneuve’s desert-bound blockbuster movies.
Here we see an enraged Chani, now firmly back in her Fremen fighter era, giving her power-hungry beau a piece of her mind; get a fresh glimpse of Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan, the third spiky point in a thoroughly miserable-seeming Atreides love triangle; Robert Pattinson’s shapeshifting Scytale, who has designs on overthrowing Paul Atreides; the return of Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho, resurrected here in clone-like ghola form as Hayt; and, well, war. Lots and lots and lots of war, all fought in Atreides’ name. “I think you’re way beyond redemption,” observes Hayt of his Paul’s galactic conquest. It seems Dune: Part Three will be majorly concerned with uncovering whether or not he is right. Uh-oh…
The official synopsis for Dune: Part Three — which also stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, and saga newcomer Isaach de Bankolé — reads as follows: “Dune: Part Three is set nearly two decades after Paul Atreides seized control of the Imperium. Now a ruthless Emperor, Paul must face the consequences of his reign as old allies return, terrifying new threats emerge, and betrayal lurks in every shadow. Haunted by visions of Imperial collapse and the reappearance of his long-lost love, Paul is drawn into a sweeping conspiracy, with Chani at the heart of its unfolding mystery. As rebellion brews and enemies close in, Paul must confront the true cost of power and the fate of those he loves the most.”
Is there any world where things end happily for Paul and Chani? Will R-Pattz be declaring Atreides’ kingdom “My Dune” by the time credits roll? And will the popcorn bucket for the trilogy capper be as inappropriate as the last one? We’ll find out when Dune: Part Three sandwalks into cinemas and IMAX screens on 18 December.
